Overview
Tacentia builds software for accounting and advisory firms. This website is a set of static pages with one contact form and no account to create. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read.
This policy covers the website and the email correspondence that follows from it.
Entity and contact
- Tacentia is a subsidiary of ClockWork League.
- Jurisdiction: New Mexico, United States.
- Contact: peter@tacentia.com
What we collect
From the form on the Talk page: the name, address and message you send. It is emailed to us and not stored on the server. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else: no marketing, no list, no sharing. The form checks for automated submissions, which needs nothing from you and records nothing about you.
From the website: we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and records each visit – the pages you read, roughly where you are, and what kind of device and browser you use. It is configured with the defaults Google provides. We use it to see which pages are read, not to identify you, and we do not combine it with anything else.
Google processes this data as our analytics provider and under its own terms. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser add-on, and most browsers let you block the cookies it sets.
We also count visits with Umami, an open-source analytics tool hosted on a server in Germany. Umami uses no cookies and stores no IP addresses or anything else that identifies you. It only records which pages are viewed, the site you came from, and your approximate country, browser and device type.
Our web server also keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for security and diagnosis. They are not used to identify individuals or linked to anything else.
From email: if you write to us, we hold what you send – your name, your address, and whatever you tell us about your firm – for as long as we are in contact and afterwards as a record of it.
How we use it
- To reply to you and to carry on the conversation you started.
- To do the work, if we go on to work together.
- To keep the site running and secure.
We do not send marketing email. We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not use it to train anything.
Client data
Work we do for a client is governed by that engagement’s own agreement, not by this policy. Our standing commitment, stated on the homepage, is that we never touch your data: no training on it, no aggregation, no reuse across clients.
Service providers
The site is served from a rented server, our email runs on a commercial mail provider, Google Analytics measures traffic, and Umami counts visits on a server in Germany run by Yellow House Digital. All four may process data outside your state or country. We share nothing with any of them beyond what running a website, an inbox and a visit count requires.
Retention
Server logs are kept for a short operational window and then rotated out. Analytics data is retained for as long as Google’s default retention period, currently fourteen months. Correspondence is kept while a conversation is live and afterwards as a business record, unless you ask us to delete it.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to peter@tacentia.com. We aim to answer within ten business days and to complete the request within thirty.
Children
This site is for business readers. It is not directed at children.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and access to our systems is limited to the two of us. No internet-based system is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version is posted here with a new date at the top.
